Firms in Modern China Database

The Urban History Research Group (MHDB) collected a lot of materials of city guides which are including many areas, such as Peking, Tientsin, Shanghai, Suchow, Hankow, in order to construct the base of the research of urban history. Firms in Modern China database is a database which is related to trade research based on the firms related materials from old materials of urban history.

After organizing the format of various materials, we use name of firms as the name of the main clause. According to the records of every firm, they might have much information in any section or even full-text database, in order to provide the located city, address, year, professional classification, business areas, scale and the basic personal information of each manager.

Based on these materials, connecting stores and the materials of businessmen, and the related information from other databases of the Institute of Modern History, people can see the trade networks which had been built by businessmen and the activities of businessmen in cities of China.
